Education is one of the most important aspects to our organization. Without education, it would be impossible to change the minds and hearts of people. Back in 2020, when the whole world shut down, we were thinking of ways to continue educating people about our mission and animals, even though no one could make it out to the refuge. That’s when we began our virtual tours here at Turpentine Creek!

What is a Virtual Tour Like?

Students or organizations can join an education team member to take a virtual field trip around the refuge. We use a prerecorded video that shows our animals engaging in different activities while we talk and pause the video with information on our sanctuary, the animal rescues, fun facts about the different species, and more! We use a prerecorded video as opposed to a live stream, so we can fully ensure that the animals will be seen. As a true sanctuary, Turpentine Creek never forces the animals to do anything or be anywhere in their habitat. Internet can also be spotty at times, so we would hate to lose connection with our groups.

Who Have We Educated?

Since the inception of our virtual tours, Turpentine Creek has engaged and educated over 5,300 people online alone! We have given virtual tours to students and adults throughout many different states here in the U.S. We’ve also educated on an international level as we’ve given virtual tours to people in Canada, New Zealand, Argentina, United Kingdom, Columbia, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico, Bangladesh, India, Egypt, and Ukraine.

If you’re interested in learning more about our virtual tours or setting one up, please feel free to contact our education team at education@turpentinecreek.org.
